Measure N (1% sales tax increase)
The statement that goes on the ballot is as follows:
"To provide local funding to maintain City of San Ramon programs, services and facilities, including: public safety and police services; neighborhood crime prevention; traffic YES enforcement and road safety; street and road improvements and maintenance; library and recreation services; park maintenance youth, senior, and cultural programs; and other city services and facilities; shall the City of San Ramon levy a one cent sales tax, providing approximately $ 16, 000, 000 annually for 10 years, NO subject to public review, annual audits, and all funds benefitting San Ramon? "
I urge voters to reject Measure N, as its wording is misleading
Please watch the video, which shows the city council discussing the agenda for the 1 % sales tax increase (Measure N).It highlights a resident's confusion about the increase, believing it would cost him around $31, when the actual impact is approximately $358. The fact that the entire city council, including the Mayor and four council members as well as City Staff failed to catch this mistake demonstrates how misleading the statement is written.
Additionally i had done a survey on nextdoor to find out what the community prefers. Again the 90 votes are too small of a data to be conclusive.
If I were to rewrite it, I would do so truthfully.
"For the past four years, we've been grappling with a growing financial shortfall that went unnoticed until recently. We currently face a deficit of approximately $15 million, and to address this, we plan to implement an additional 1% sales tax. This measure will be in place for two years while we work on long-term solutions to resolve the deficit."
